Message from the Board - July 2010
The Club
The 2010 Midwest Mopars in the Park is in the books. The weather gods were was not on our side, however, the turnout was very strong
Our income was slightly off from the record 2009 and our expenses were up due to all the added features. We did show a nice profit in 2010 but it was not as good as we had hoped.
All in all, most of the comments were positive and it appeared that the group enjoyed themselves. The burnout contest was new this year. It went on in the rain and was still packed with spectators. Rod Quimby was the overall winner with his Little Red Express going till she blew the tires. Even the Scooby-Do van got into the action with its one wheel burnout on Sunday.
The racers and show car buildings were busy all day. It was a nice break from the rain and there were tons of cool stories exchanged.
We need to thank the volunteers that made this event happen. Well over 200 people helped us run this event and made it the success it was.
Club Events
Rain has been the word this spring. We would like to thank Dean and Renee Quimby for hosting a club cook out. It was at Deans shop (Don’s Circle Service named after Dean’s dad who passed away earlier this year). This open house / party was held in conjunction with the neighboring Harley shop. It rained but there was a good turnout and great food for all.
The day prior was the open house at Muscle Car Restorations in Wisconsin. There was a small caravan of members that cruised over and we met up with a bunch of others once there. Again we had great food and lots of cool cars. Thanks to John Balow and his group for there hospitality.
The final membership numbers for July should be posted within this newsletter. We always seem to gain a few new people at the show so I expect to see a number around 550 members.
Worth repeating from last moth: If you have not been to the website lately, check it out. Terry (.com) has updated and added to the site. He has done a great job. Many 2010 Midwest Mopars in the Park photos are also now posted.
Chrysler Group LLC
There is an announcement in the works for Chrysler. Not sure but it may be about the 6.4L Hemi that is coming. We will review next month and update as needed.
NASCAR The Penske Team is still running strong. Go Dodge.
Club Elections
Board Elections will be held at the August 14th club meeting. We have moved the election to the August meeting since our June and July meetings are activities
After 7 years as the club director, I will be stepping down to spend more time with my family. I want to thank the board members for the Appreciation Award they presented to me at the awards ceremony. It’s been a lot of work being director, but I have enjoyed making a difference in our club.
I think it is important to keep the club strong by involving as many members as possible in the decision process. There are several members that have expressed an interest in the Director’s position including Holly Patenude and Richard Burton among others. If you have an interest in serving on the board, please contact the me or any board member for more information.
This newsletter contains the ballot to nominate someone to the board. This can be yourself or someone you think would make a good addition to the board. All nominees must be received by July 15th. After that, the board will consider each nomination and contact each member. The members who meet board requirements will be asked to submit a letter stating their intention to run and why in the August newsletter. The August newsletter will also include an absentee ballot for members who are unable to attend the membership meeting on the 14th.
You must officially be on the August Ballot if you would like to run for a position.
Hope to see you out and about,
Chad and the Board
