News From the North Side - by Curt and Janet

We just picked up a DVD copy of the movie “Serious Man” at Target so you should be able to pick one up at your favorite store by the time you read this. When I saw it there the sign said Coming Soon and our daughter checked at Wal Mart and it was only available online so I think we were in the right place at the right time.

It has been quite a winter and with all this snow looks like the Coronets will be tucked away for a while yet. This will be the longest they have been idle for quite some time with the snow covering the ground and streets since just after Thanksgiving and 16 inches on the ground. For the past several years we have had the cars out up until Christmas without much snow and the roads have been clear of snow and salt. Even if we get warm weather and the roads clear off with the snow and ice in the back yard it will take quite a bit of warm weather to melt the snow in the yard so we can get them out. We are getting anxious for warm spring days so we can go cruising again.

Well even though it is in the 20’s and snowing it won’t be long and the car show season and our Midwest Mopars in the Park Show will be here. The show committee is working hard to make this show the best one yet and in our travels around the country our show has always received positive comments. The comments we have heard reflect that this is one of the best Mopar shows around so our show committee is doing an outstanding job. Now it is up to you, the members, to step up and volunteer to help for a few hours at the show. The show is growing at such a rate that we will need more volunteers each year in order to keep it running smoothly. As I have stated in the past working the show is a great experience and not hard work. Most workers return year after year so if you have not done so, give it a try. Remember, those who volunteer their time for 3 hours will get them a free show T-shirt!

Our February meeting was held at the Chrysler Parts Depot and we had a great turn out. We heard about how their parts come in during the day and are stocked in their locations then the night crew pulls the parts to fill the orders which are loaded on to trucks and shipped to the dealers in MN, WI, IA, ND, SD, MI, and Canada. The trucks leave at various times throughout the evening at set times to make sure the parts are at the dealers early the next day. We then toured the warehouse and watched the workers in action. We returned to the meeting room for some homemade treats along with Mopar updates and bench racing. It was a great meeting and we thank all the employees who took time out of their busy schedule to show us around and explain their duties.

Next Month will be at Dunwoody with Al McAvoy “Chrysler Technical Advisor”. He was with us at the Parts Depot and threw out some teasers but would not go into detail, as he would say you have to come to the next meeting to find out more. If you have met Al you know how entertaining and knowledgeable he is and how enthusiastic he is about Chrysler. Make sure you make it to this meeting and learn about the future plans of the Chrysler Corporation. Al is always more than happy to answer any questions you may have. He has been with the company for over 20 years so he has a lot of knowledge both past and present. He will also be giving us a tour of the Auto Mechanic area of Dunwoody where Chrysler mechanics and others are trained. Don’t miss this one. Also don’t forget the Duluth “World of Wheels” March 26-28. Janet and I will see you there.
